The Hermitage
This home was built for Transfigurtion Monastery in New York State. This community combines both life in community and also a greater opportunity for silence and solitude. One sister lives in the Hermitage, allowing her greater time for meditation and prayer. The Hermitage consists of a very nice kitchen, full bath, closet for water heater and a combination living and sleeping area.
You might wonder why a log home and why red. The main monastery building is a large traditional log home, which was painted red to avoid the freequent applications of wood preservative every few years. The community chose to build the Hermitage in a modular style and paint it to match the monastery building.

Client Testimonial
Our community built an additional hermitage with a building custom designed by ABC Modular Log Homes. We belong to a congregation within the Benedictine Order called the Camaldolese. Our way of monastic life incorporates both life in community along with greater possibility for silence and solitude, therefore, each sister is provided a “hermitage” – a small cottage.
Our hermitage is roughly 30 feet by 13.5 feet and includes a bathroom, a small kitchen area and a large living room with space for a bed and study area. Read More ...
